University-private ventures can address nurse shortage
Sunday, October 18, 2009
A once ominous outlook for the shortage of nurses seems to have flat-lined. Graduating nursing students have found it increasingly difficult to find hospitals to hire them.
For those doing the math, it doesn’t seem to add up.
Nurse staffing has eased dramatically this year because of economic pressure causing retiring nurses to reconsider their leave, though Michigan Chief Nurse Executive Jeanette Klemczak reported recently that this short term “blip” will not alter the projected shortages over time. Nor does this “blip” affect community health and long-term care nursing where a systemic labor shortage in the health care industry remains.
